Australian Opal Centre Lightning Ridge
Project Background:
We were engaged to construct structural MagnumStone gravity walls to provide access for a walkway connecting the site to an underground building. The project also included custom decorative Gabion walls, designed to showcase cultural and historical artefacts. A focus on strength and aesthetics was essential to complement the cultural significance of the site.
Challenges:
Situated in a remote and isolated location, the site presented considerable logistical challenges, complicating the transport of materials and coordination of construction schedules. Additionally, the design and implementation of a custom Gabion feature required innovative engineering solutions to ensure both structural stability and a striking visual impact.
Solution & Results:
We delivered a tailored solution that integrated curved decorative Gabion retaining walls, creating a distinctive entryway to the underground walkway. A custom structural design for the Gabion provided both functionality and aesthetic appeal, resulting in a visually unique feature. Despite the challenges posed by the remote location, meticulous planning and collaboration ensured the project’s success. The outcome not only delivered a strong, functional retaining structure but also realised the client’s vision, adding a culturally significant and visually impressive feature to the landscape.
