Garden Square
Project Background:
We were engaged to undertake a comprehensive package of works involving earthworks, retaining wall construction, and associated roadworks within a constrained urban environment. The scope included the installation of concrete sleeper retaining walls supported by UB posts, excavation and reinstatement works, and asphalt repair. Works were carried out under strict compliance with local authority standards, including environmental and traffic management obligations.
Challenges:
The project posed several logistical and environmental challenges. Limited site access and restricted working hours necessitated careful scheduling and coordination of trades. The site investigation revealed contaminated soil, which required specialised handling and disposal in accordance with environmental regulations. In addition, traffic management was a key consideration due to proximity to public roads, and limited storage space on site added further complexity to material deliveries and staging.
Solution & Results:
Our team managed the project from site setup to completion, handling all plans, permits, and dilapidation reports. Services were identified and protected via survey and potholing. Earthworks included topsoil management, bulk excavation, testing, and full landscape reinstatement. Precision-built concrete sleeper retaining walls featured footings, steel posts, and drainage. Structural elements passed strict quality and geotechnical checks. Roadworks involved bitumen saw cutting and restoring the driveway crossover with 250mm CBR3 and concrete. Despite site and environmental challenges, the project finished ahead of schedule, meeting all safety and compliance standards.
