Beachmere

Project Background:

We were engaged to install a MagnumStone retaining wall system along the Lake Edge and the northern wall of a large-scale development. Spanning 723 lineal metres and covering approximately 2,695 square metres, the retaining wall reached a maximum height of 5.2 metres. The primary objective was to provide essential structural support while stabilising the embankment adjacent to the waterline.

Challenges:

Poor soil conditions in the foundation area required modifications to the wall design, increasing the embedment depth by an additional metre. This adjustment lowered the structure’s position, resulting in the first course of blocks being placed below the high tide level. The tidal influence introduced unique risks, affecting both scheduling and installation integrity.

Solution & Results:

Our team implemented a revised construction methodology to manage tidal movements effectively. Water was redirected as needed, and work schedules were adjusted to align with favourable tidal windows. By adapting to the site conditions, we ensured construction progressed without compromising safety, quality, or timeline. The result was a structurally sound and visually cohesive retaining wall that met all engineering and aesthetic requirements in a challenging waterfront environment.
