At RWS we perform work on many different sites that have a number of hurdles to overcome, let us share that with you.
Objective
Building retaining walls ranging between 1 to 7m high spanning across 600 meters.
Walls on this site that we were constructing were tasked to integrate with: Keystone Reinforced Earth Walls (REW), Keystone with No Fines Concrete (NFC), Stonestrong Mass block walls and Sandstone Lugs.
The Challenge
One of the biggest challenges to overcome was access to the site. A temporary road was created for access into a huge hole where the walls would be constructed. Trucks were running 10 hours a day, every day removing excess soil from the site. Halfway through the project, the temporary road was removed leaving 1 road in and 1 road out, which proved difficult with logistics and working alongside other trades on site. Materials and deliveries had to be precisely managed to ensure other trades were not blocking access
Problems Solved
RWS offered night shift services to the client which allowed us to work on a quiet site and maximise our productivity without the involvement of other trades. Evidently finishing the project on time.
Benefits for the client
Handing over the site on time was the main objective for the client. We worked together with other trades on-site to ensure logistically we could all achieve our targets.
Although there were access and design issues to overcome, we managed to complete the project within the program and within budget.
